At each station: locate landmark → palpate muscle → demonstrate confirming action → state action/nerve → name nearby caution.
Landmarks: occiput, clavicle, acromion. Confirm with gentle scapular elevation. Nerve: CN XI motor. Avoid treating anterior/lateral neck as though it were all trapezius.
Landmarks: superior angle/medial scapular border and upper cervical region. Confirm with scapular elevation/downward rotation pattern. Nerve: dorsal scapular + cervical.
Locate scapular spine, move superiorly into supraspinous fossa. Gentle abduction can confirm. Nerve: suprascapular.
Locate below scapular spine. Confirm with resisted gentle lateral rotation. Nerve: suprascapular.
Acromion/lateral clavicle/scapular spine define proximal attachment. Confirm middle fibers with abduction. Nerve: axillary.
Anterior arm. Confirm with elbow flexion + supination. Nerve: musculocutaneous. Protect cubital fossa distally.
Deep to biceps, accessible distally on either side. Confirm elbow flexion with forearm pronated to reduce biceps advantage. Nerve primarily musculocutaneous.
Confirm with gentle contralateral rotation. Nerve: CN XI motor. Palpate the muscle, not carotid structures. No deep indiscriminate anterior-neck pressure.
Between iliac crest and greater trochanter on lateral hip. Confirm with gentle hip abduction. Nerve: superior gluteal.
Find ASIS then move slightly lateral/inferior. Confirm hip flexion/abduction/medial rotation. Nerve: superior gluteal.
Locate ischial tuberosity region and posterior thigh; confirm with gentle knee flexion. Distinguish biceps femoris lateral from semitendinosus/semimembranosus medial. Protect popliteal fossa.
Identify rectus femoris centrally, vasti around it. Confirm knee extension. Nerve: femoral. Rectus femoris also crosses hip.
Superficial posterior calf with medial/lateral heads. Confirm plantarflexion with knee relatively extended. Nerve: tibial. Screen vascular red flags first.
Deep to gastrocnemius; bent-knee plantarflexion reduces gastrocnemius contribution. Nerve: tibial.
Immediately lateral to tibial crest. Confirm dorsiflexion/inversion. Nerve: deep fibular. Do not grind the tibial crest.
Lateral leg. Confirm eversion. Nerve: superficial fibular. Protect common fibular nerve near fibular head.
